Daily Precipitation Trends Across Korea – April 2024 (mm)

In April 2024, nationwide precipitation totaled 80.4 mm, which was within the normal range (70.3–99.3 mm).The number of rainy days was 7.7, slightly lower than the average of 8.4 days.

During this period, low-pressure systems originating from southern China mainly passed through the southern seas of Korea, bringing over 100 mm of rainfall to some parts of the southern coast. However, the central region received less precipitation than usual, which balanced out the nationwide total, making it similar to the climatological average.

In April, the continental high-pressure systems were weaker than usual, while mobile high-pressure systems frequently affected the Korean Peninsula.

 

As these mobile highs passed over the country, they brought clear skies and abundant sunshine, and as they moved eastward, they were followed by warm southwesterly winds, which contributed to rising temperatures.

2023 VS 2024 Comparison

  • Temperatures across the country were higher than last year, with increases ranging from +1.0°C to +2.5°C.

  • In terms of precipitation, the central region received less rainfall than last year, while the southern region saw more, showing a year-on-year variation of –37.1 mm to +60.9 mm.

  • Nationwide, the average temperature in April 2024 was 1.8°C higher than in April 2023, and precipitation increased by 14.1 mm.
